Frequently Asked Questions

What is a doula?

A doula is a trained professional who provides emotional, physical, and informational support to parents during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. We help you feel empowered, confident, and cared for throughout your journey.

What does a doula do during labor?

During labor, we provide continuous support by offering comfort measures like massage, breathing techniques, positioning suggestions, and emotional encouragement. We also help facilitate communication with your care team to ensure your preferences are respected.

How is a doula different from a midwife?

While a midwife provides medical care during pregnancy and birth, a doula focuses on non-medical support. We work alongside your medical team to ensure you feel supported and informed.

Do doulas replace partners during birth?

Not at all! We work alongside partners to enhance their involvement and provide guidance so they can support you more effectively. We’re here to be part of your team.

What are the benefits of hiring a doula?

Studies show that having a doula can reduce the need for medical interventions, lower the chance of cesarean delivery, and increase overall satisfaction with the birth experience.

What services do you offer?

We provide prenatal visits, labor and birth support, virtual doula services, placenta encapsulation and childbirth education classes. Check out our Services page for detailed packages.

Do you offer virtual doula services?

Yes, we offer virtual support for those who prefer remote guidance during pregnancy and birth.

When should I hire a doula?

It’s best to hire a doula early in your pregnancy, but we welcome clients at any stage. Early booking ensures we can provide consistent support throughout your journey and we have space in our schedule for your due date.

How often will we meet before labor?

We typically meet 2–3 times during pregnancy to discuss your birth plan, comfort preferences, and any questions or concerns you may have.

What is your on-call availability?

We go on call two weeks before your due date to ensure we’re ready to support you whenever labor begins.

How long will you stay during labor?

We provide continuous support from the time you need us until after your baby is born and you’re settled postpartum.

Do you support all types of births?

Absolutely! We support home births, hospital births, birthing center deliveries, VBACs, scheduled cesareans, and everything in between.

What happens if I have a cesarean birth?

We provide support during cesarean births by staying with you, offering comfort, and assisting with the postpartum recovery process.

Can I still hire a doula if I’m planning an epidural or induction?

Yes! Doulas provide support for all birth preferences, whether unmedicated or medicated, natural or induced.

How much does it cost to hire a doula?

Our prices vary depending on the package you choose. Visit our Services page for details.

Do you accept insurance?

We currently accept Medicaid Healthy Blue. If you have Medicaid please submit our contact form and we will get back with you!

Some insurance plans or HSA/FSA accounts may cover doula services. We can provide an invoice or documentation for reimbursement upon request.
